I just ordered the
GeForce GTX 760 graphics card for my computer. During the past couple of months I have considered
three different cards to upgrade my
current video card which I bought sometime in 2011.
Card | benchmark | note |
GeForce GTX 550 Ti | 1923 | current |
GeForce GTX 750 Ti | 3695 | $114 |
GeForce GTX 760 | 4976 | $170 |
GeForce GTX 770 | 6165 | $250 |
GTX 550 Ti vs GTX 760 Compared
I decided against the GTX 750 in that the improvement was not as much as I wanted despite the low price of about $115. I wanted at least twice the benchmark rating as before.
I decided on the GTX 760 because it was on sale for $170 after a mail in rebate. The amount of improvement for the GTX 770 felt a bit like overkill and for the cost to performance ratio I just could not justify the purchase.
With my current rig the gpu is definitely the bottleneck, but if after I install my new gpu I still have some of the same fps drops then I will look into over clocking my cpu and gpu and if that does not work then look into getting a better cpu. If I go the route of a better cpu I plan on holding off for a while like maybe a year before doing so.
