I am very close to completing the PCRE that will convert hyphens to dashes. When it is finished in a day or two I will add it to the PCRE examples page and update the tutorials as well. It is a bit more complicated than usual and will take some time explaining. It should be a rather handy script that will locate matches in text while ignoring hyphens located in css, javascript, and HTML tags.
I think I am really close to finishing this script, but I have been wrong about that many times in the past.
