I'm at a public computer while I write this.  I recently purchased a new 27" monitor to replace the 15.5" one that I was using.

Some of the great benefits:

• virtually no glare.
  
• It is easily viewable from any angle.
  
• It is huge!  It makes most any activity a very immersive experience.

I also purchased a Fenix E35 UE 900 lumen flashlight.  I love the durability and brightness of it.  I use it all the time.  It does use CR123A batteries.  I recommend buying the batteries in bulk for $40 for 40.

I want to further upgrade my computer to an I7, but we'll see if funds are permitting and it will have to be at a later date.
