North Carolina adopts marriage amendment

Posted: 5/9/12

North Carolina adopted a marriage amendment yesterday May 8, 2012 that limits marriage to one man and one woman.  This encompasses civil unions and the like and represents the strongest possible wording for a marriage amendment.  The amendment reads:

"Marriage between a man and a woman is the only domestic legal union that shall be valid or recognized in this State. This section does not prohibit a private party from entering into contracts with another private party; nor does this section prohibit courts from adjudicating the rights of private parties pursuant to such contracts."
ref

The amendment passed 61% to 39% with 90% reporting in.  A simple majority was needed to pass.  The next state that has a marriage amendment officially on the ballot is Minnesota on November 6, 2012. ref

Admin's Comment: One frustrating thing about this referendum is that the liberal news media kept insisting that the vote was close hinting it was likely to fail and when it did pass they all show pictures of pastors and churches cheering as if it was all the evil church's fault for manipulating the vote.  The news media and popular culture does this ALL THE TIME!  It's getting annoying.  Currently they are trying to push the notion that all of these marriage amendments are on their way out within the next 5 – 10 years and that it will most likely occur through a US Supreme Court decision.  That is certainly possible.  Let's wait and see instead of insisting that voting for these marriage amendments is a hopeless cause.
