Wisconsin v. Illinois: differing strategies to fixing the state buget

Wisconsin governor Scott Walker and Illinois governor Pat Quinn were both elected to office in November 2010 and faced multi–billion dollar deficits for their state. They both decided to tackle the issue in opposite ways. Scott Walker decided to depower state unions, cut the budget, and make the state more accommodating to business owners. Pat Quinn raised taxes by 67%.
As of July 2013 Wisconsin has an unemployment rate of 6.8% and Illinois is at 9.2%. The national average is 7.4%. In July of 2009 Wisconsin's unemployment rate peaked at 9.2%.

I still feel it is a bit early yet to draw solid conclusions, but I would love to see how things shape up between these two states a few years from now so long as the same plans for these two states continue.
