Appling v. Walker concludes

The Wisconsin Supreme Court ruled unanimously today, 7/31/14, that the domestic partner registry does not violate the state's constitutional amendment defining marriage as between one man and one woman and not permitting anything similar.

"Only a marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid or recognized as a marriage in this state. A legal status identical or substantially similar to that of marriage for unmarried individuals shall not be valid or recognized in this state"

Wisconsin Family Action
responds to the ruling:
"While we are disappointed that the Wisconsin Supreme Court did not agree with us, what's important is that marriage remains between one man and one woman in Wisconsin and that even in this ruling, the court recognized that marriage is unique and nothing like relationships formed by same–sex couples."

Currently, the Wisconsin marriage amendment is on appeal to the 7th Circuit with a hearig scheduled for August, 26, 2014.
