U.S. Supreme Court won't hear any same sex marriage cases this term

The U.S. Supreme Court decided not to hear any of the same sex marriages on appeal to the High Court today, Monday, 10/6/14.
ref This is unexpected by pretty much everyone including myself. I am disappointed because I was hoping to read the reasoning behind the ruling one way and the other.
This means that the lower court rulings will stand. It also means that the cases still pending in the 5th, 6th, and 9th
ref circuit courts could decide to let the current traditional marriage amendments stand. This is most likely to occur in the 5th circuit and least likely to occur in the 9th. If one of these circuit courts rule to support traditional marriage then it is likely the U.S. Supreme Court will hear an appeal.
ADF mentioned today that there is/are cases pending in the 8th and 11th circuits
ref, but I am unaware of any such cases.
