U.S. Supreme Court refuses stay in Alabama marriage ruling

Posted: 2/10/15

The U.S. Supreme Court Monday, 2/9/15, refused to grant a stay to the Alabama Attorney General preventing him from enforcing existing marriage laws.

Today's decision represents yet another example of this Court's increasingly cavalier attitude toward the States. Over the past few months, the Court has repeatedly denied stays of lower court judgments enjoining the enforcement of state laws on questionable constitutional grounds. It has similarly declined to grant certiorari to review such judgments without any regard for the people who approved those laws in popular referendums or elected the representatives who voted for them. In this case, the Court refuses even to grant a temporary stay when it will resolve the issue at hand in several months.

I respectfully dissent from the denial of this application.  I would have shown the people of Alabama the respect they deserve and preserved the status quo while the Court resolves this important constitutional question.

THOMAS, J., dissenting, 2/9/15

U.S. Supreme Court rulings are fixed. ref  I do not have hard proof that the U.S. Supreme Court rulings are fixed, but when you look at the trend of Supreme Court rulings on same sex marriages, the recent decision refusing to grant a stay of a lower court's ruling to abolish that states marriage amendment, the U.S. Supreme court's dissenting opinions accurately predicting exactly how and exactly when the courts would rule on the matter you begin to see a trend. see Ginsburg interview

I very much agree with the American Conservative regarding the upcoming dissenting opinion by Justice Scalia, because it is going to be one whopper of a read!
