- 06/26/15: Gov. Beshear issued a directive ordering all Kentucky county clerks to personally authorize SSM licenses
(the "SSM Mandate"). ref
- 06/26/15: County clerk Kim Davis announces that the Rowan County Clerk's Office would no longer issue marriage licenses to any couples. ref
- 08/17/15: District court judge David L. Bunning orders Kim Davis to issue marriage licenses, but stays his order pending appeal. ref, ref2
- 08/26/15: Kim Davis ordered by the 6th circuit to grant same sex licenses, but she still refuses to do so. She believes that the first amendment allows her to be a government worker and also to exercise her beliefs. ref, pdf
- 08/28/15: Kim Davis formally appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court. ref
- 08/31/15: Without comment the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Kim Davis emergency appeal while they consider whether to hear the case. ref, alt
- 09/03/15: District Judge David Bunning ordered Kim Davis to be arrested ref. She has rejected an offer to get out of jail if she will issue marriage licenses to same sex couples. ref
- 09/07/15: Kim Davis files emergency appeal to the 6th Circuit for immediate consideration and motion for injunction pending appeal. pdf, ref
- 09/08/15: District court judge David L. Bunning orders Kim Davis to be released on the condition that she not interfere with issuing marriage licenses. pdf, ref
- 09/14/15: After taking a few days off from work after getting out of jail. Kim Davis allows clerks to issue marriage licenses with her name omitted and has asked to replace her title on the license forms with a statement saying that the licenses are being issued as required by a federal court order. I presume this request was granted. ref
- 11/05/15: Matt Bevin who supported and visited Kim Davis in jail wins Kentucky governor position over opponent Jack Conway. He vows to make one of his first acts as governor to stop forcing county clerks to endorse same sex marriage licenses personally. Matt Bevin is the third Republican governor of Kentucky in 50 years. ref
- 04/05/18: Briefs were filed before the 6th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals after the case was reinstated. Kim Davis is being represented by Liberty Counsel ref, ref2

Ryan T. Anderson mentions North Carolina which on 6/11/15 overrode a Governor veto of a law to allow state employees to not be forced to be involved with same sex weddings.
