Julea Ward Vindicated Today

News was released today (12/10/12) that Julea Ward, who was expelled from Eastern Michigan University's counseling program because of her religious beliefs, received a monetary settlement from the university and her record of having been expelled from the university was expunged. The university's ethics standards remained intact, the university said.

It may seem that Julea Ward caved because of money and was not able to get the policies changed, but that was not the issue. The issue was that the university was demanding that she change her beliefs in order to graduate which in no way conflicted the counseling program's ethics standards or policies. The counseling program said that it did when she asked to refer a patient to another counselor; a common practice among counselors in the profession and in the counseling program she was in.

If you are looking for an admittance of guilt on the part of the university you will have a harder time finding it, but a person could argue that it is hinted at in that Julea's record of expulsion was expunged.
